Living room before

We bought our East Coast home in November 2014, and were able to move in by March 2015. We liked Make Room’s aesthetic, and found Barbara and Audrey to be flexible and easygoing; most importantly, their proposal addressed our brief, so we were sold. They helped us with space planning, furniture selection and minor renovations. We tore down one wall in our third bedroom and replaced it with a glass wall; we also replaced all wardrobes, re-floored the balcony, changed lighting and bathroom fixtures, replaced the laminate in the kitchen cabinets and added a splash-back to brighten up the place. The Make Room team sourced different options for furniture, and helped us select pieces for the entire apartment, introducing us to suppliers who made a simple custom light fixture for our living room, and cushions for our bay windows. Through the glass wall, natural light is able to stream in during the day. At night, the light fixtures help to frame the dining table and make it feel warm, cosy and inviting. We were able to buy a new extendable table to suit the space constraints and reuse our existing dining chairs, a practical solution. One of the biggest downsides of the apartment was that the dining room didn’t have windows. To overcome this challenge, Make Room suggested that we replace one of the walls of the third bedroomwith a glass wall with glass doors. We took a leap of faith, and now we love it as lots of light streams through; there’s a blind in the bedroom for when privacy is required there. We’re in the process of converting our third bedroom into a nursery as we are expecting a baby boy in January. We had initially seen the room as a study, but as we started planning for a family we decided to leave it unfurnished, to see what would happen. Now that we’re expecting, we’re shopping for furniture again!
