BEHIND
the Lens A snapshot of some Singapore’s best family photographers.
Kate Griffiths Littleones Photography
What started you on the photography path?
I originally qualified as a nurse in the UK but sadly I had a car accident that changed my career path. I’d always loved photography so I decided to go back to school and study it at Kingston College of Art and Design in London, and follow my creative dream. I love meeting people from all walks of life. Making people feel comfortable in front of a camera is a real skill, and helps you capture the essence of families. I have only a little slice of time to capture something special – I love seeking those little moments that show their love and happiness. What do you love most about your job? Any aspirations, or things you’d like to achieve? I’d love to continue to do this job! It’s rare in life you get to do a job you absolutely love and I’m grateful for that. Have you had any changes in direction or style over the years? I think styles change all the time; as a photographer, you’re influenced by many things and have to be mindful to be up to date with trends and styles, while keeping your own signature style. Great artists and
photographers are known for their individual look, so when someone says, “Oh, that looks like a Littleones Photography photo”, I’m very proud to be recognised this way!
Who’s your team? Do you have different strengths?
My sister Emily and I work together. We’re both photographers and our shots have the same look and feel. However, when it comes to doing photos of students graduating from school, Emily has a fantastic arty edge to finding cool location spots to do more editorial photos; I love running around after cheeky toddlers and capturing the spontaneous moments. Jen, our office and studio manager, keeps everything organised and running smoothly!
